  SARAH MINNEY
strung: Hickmann vs. Grigg.
There's a dead fish in tank no.22.

10 - 20 DECEMBER 1998

Local artist Sarah Minney's installation was a recreation of the aural presence of a tennis match. A pair of1960s Bang and Olufsen speakers so faithfully relayed the pops of volleys, squeaks of tennis shoes, and distance tweeting of birds, that you would swear you were really there.

Minney's exercise in verisimilitude was about recalling the 'sensuality' implicit in physical experience. Her performance work was similarly evocative, using props that were carefully laid out in readiness (tins of plums, teatowels, newspaper, bowls of water). As she opened the tins and peeled the plums, Minney read from a diaristic text that was earnest, humourous, erotic, and arresting.

Sarah Minney performed There's a dead fish in tank no.22 at 6pm Tuersday 15 December.
