Diagnostic Tools for the New Millennium Josie Starrs & Leon Cmielewski Diagnostic Tools for the New Millennium is a set of vapourware tools designed for the new age. When this post optimism, post modernist, post feminist age crashes, what tools will be needed to verify our corrupted psyches? The work investigates our personal relationship to new technologies, exploring concepts like the schizoid body (virtual & real), and the technolust / technophobia polarization. Our experiences are increasingly being mediated by new technologies. In the rush to leave the meat behind, the disembodied self is relishing its new found flexibility and freedom while conversely, the desire for and obsession with information seems to be reaching fetishist proportions. Through our website http://starrs.banff.org we gather personal information which is then fed into the installation where we engage the audience in a dialogue about privacy issues such as surveillance, consumer profiling and intimacy on the Internet. -Josie Starrs and Leon Cmielewski Diagnostic Tools for the New Millenium is an interactive multimedia installation. |
