senVoodoo (AñA Wojak & Fiona McGregor) ARTERIAL
Performance 6pm 12 June, in the gallery until 21 June |
|
Arterial is a performance about loss and mourning that uses the primal medium of blood. The shrouded figures at once represent humanity and dehumanisation: in their veiled anonymity, are they protected or repressed? Are the hands pleading or offering? Is the white to be read as mourning or purity? Arterial is recontextualized with each new siting.
‘For millenia, across cultures, the bleeding body has been the location of drama, emotion, sacrifice and redemption. Religious and folk traditions throughout the world acknolwedged blood as a vital essence and bleeding as a ritualistic process of purifi cation and purging. Contemporary relevance continues in these times of plague, war and oppression.’
