A great book- Picasso’s Collected Poems — with an introduction by Jerome Rothenberg & Pierre Joris, an essay “The Nomadism of Picasso” by Joris, & and afterword by Michel Leiris. Begun during a long lay-off from painting, but continued intermittently thereafter, Picasso’s poetry was important to him &, he joked, might become what he was best remembered for. Market forces make that unlikely — but his writing is significant in its own right and as ‘a journal of the artist’s soul’ (in Breton’s phrase). The usual beautiful Exact Change production. |
