Schuyler's letters are extremely amusing, especially those to John Ashbery- they give an account of relationships between the major figures in the early NY School (Ashbery, O'Hara, Koch & Schuyler) and some oidea of relations between them and the second and thierd generations (specifically people like Tony Towle, Ron Padgett, Ted Berrigan, Kenward Elmslie, Joe Brainard). They also give an idea of the curious life Schuyler led after his early breakdowns. Schuyler is a terrific & beautiful poet- one of the founding generation New York School poets, almost inimitable in his seeming simplicity. Schuyler became a well known figure, finally, with the publication (& the prizes that followed) of 'The Morning Of The Poem'. |
