DARK HORSEY SAYS- The Dalkey Archive reprint of 1979 anti-novel by Gilbert Sorrentino. Who else makes hard work fun? Queneau's 'Flight Of Icarus' could be the model for this - but massively elaborated & playing with writing skewed between various hilariously faulty & failing conventions of 'conventional' writing- characters who stranded & in difficulties because the author has failed to open a door for them, dress them or whatever, or simply lacking adequate 'motivation'. And great stumble-bum sentences-"We, as I before hinted, entered."The Novel lurches like an enormous baroque raft white-watering. Very funny - supercilious, sneering, leering, nit-picking. But great! |
