TLS review reckons it's a conceited wank, (Feb 11 05), but maybe it's worth a look. The Poms never like continental theory anyway. In any case, it is a slim volume dedicated to"poetics of the desk."Desks belonging to Barthes, Proust, Stoppard and some others too. Augé, a well known philosopher & anthropologist, considers ;forgetting' as a central process in our ability to return to earlier pasts than the immediately forgotten, & to return to the future & the present freshly, Way-Back Machine style. |
