A central focus in the work of Aleks Danko has been the experiences,
narratives and hidden currents of Australian suburbia. Iconic images used
in the exploration of these have varied from the garden shed to Australian
Rules football and Vegemite. His gaze is both revealing and critical, positioning
these debates and arenas as one of the central dynamics of the construction
of the 'Australian' sense of identity; and asking quite what these narratives
may reveal of attitudes and inclinations at work within society.
